Make a connection with ProjectLINK - 14/09/2008

Finding support for your club or district service project just got easier. ProjectLINK, an online, searchable database at www.rotary.org, offers a one-stop resource for Rotarians seeking funding, donated goods, volunteers, or partners for a Rotary Foundation Matching Grant.

ProjectLINK is updated monthly and includes hundreds of projects from around the world. Rotarians looking for a project to support can search by country, project type, resources needed, or keyword. More than 800 examples of successful projects can be found by searching model projects.

“ProjectLINK unites project sponsors and contributors by combining three separate databases: current projects in need of resources, model projects, and volunteer sites. It is the first and last stop for Rotary clubs and Rotarians engaging in service projects,” says Abby McNear, manager of RI’s Service Support and Awards Department.

For example, the Rotary Club of Banmi, Lopburi, Thailand, seeks to raise US$$10,000 to purchase shoes for 1,800 needy children who walk barefoot — some as far as four miles a day — to attend school. Several Rotary clubs learned about the Banmi club’s effort through ProjectLINK, including the Rotary Club of Novato, California, USA.

“ProjectLINK was a great tool in helping us find projects that needed assistance,” says Alfredo Angulo, a member of the Novato club. He describes the $1,000 the club donated to the Banmi project as “money well spent in the assistance of people in need.”
